No more can we lean on the past
as our crutch, excuse, racial injustice and abuse
See the bar has been risen for all races, backgrounds,
Every mother, son, brother, father and child- this is an example
we can all put to use
See here rose a man
Who beat the odds of sterotype and society
Here came a man who has shown us more than just possibility
Here stands a man who showed us we can push for equality
No more excuses men about how your father wasn't there,
I'm so sick of you leaning on that
As if your failure was a result of his lack of care
No more can we say we have not achieved because the "man" has held
us down
For Obama has shown us when there is a road block
Find a way and solution to walk around
No more excuses my women,
Stop waiting for a man to hold you down
Because Michelle was the bread winner
And she didn't have to have a man around
No more society can you say our men are no good
Drug dealers, thieves, murderers- now can you see how we've been underestimated
and misunderstood?
Here stands a strong black American family
A cleared example of dedicated african american's like you and me
For so many years we have been held in captivity
Allowing those around us to connive us into limiting what we could be
But there are none so blind as those who refuse to see
Here stand progress of a melting pot of unity
Proof that the color of the skin is no longer a definition of you and me
Whites, Blacks, Latino's, Asians
In this moment have all become one
One mother, one father, one daughter, one son
Today together we finally stand - a dream that we have finally come to feel
Reality of a destiny that together we ALL made real
We found our hope and created a change- united fellow men
And our prayers for the dedicated Obama
Who has truly shown us
That YES WE CAN
